Turn-by-turn navigation and downloading maps for offline use.
The app provides turn-by-turn navigation for routes. Load a route from your saved routes or create one in the Route Builder (in the Routes tab) of the mobile app or on the web, then tap Start Navigation from your Route Detail page.
Navigation mode shows your position on the route, upcoming turns, and distance to the next turn.
The app uses a "shadow position" system to track your progress along the route. Your shadow is where you would be on the route line based on your GPS location.
If you stray more than 20 meters from the route, an orange dotted line appears connecting your position to your shadow on the route. Navigation continues via your shadow position, so you'll still see upcoming turn instructions. When you return to the route, the orange line disappears and normal navigation resumes.
If you go off-route and rejoin the route further along, the system automatically resyncs to the correct waypoint so you don't miss any turns.
Downloading a route for offline use saves two things: the route data (the turn-by-turn instructions and the elevation profile) and the map (the visible map background for your route area). With both saved, you get the full offline experience - street-name turn-by-turn and the map - with no internet connection. A route that has only its data saved still navigates with turn-by-turn; it just has no map background.
Save a route for offline use so you can navigate and view the map without an internet connection. There are two ways to start a download:

The app saves the route data first ("Saving route data..."), then the map tiles, and finishes with "{route name} is ready for offline use!". The route's cloud icon then turns green and shows the download size, e.g. 6.2 MB.
You don't have to download every route to navigate it offline: whenever you open a route's detail screen while online, the app automatically caches its route data (turn-by-turn and elevation). Downloading is still what adds the offline map. Downloaded routes also stay in your Routes tab when you have no signal - the tab shows an orange Offline Mode - Showing cached routes banner and lists everything available offline.
The cloud icon on each route's row shows its offline status:
A short status line also appears under the route's date: Offline ready when complete (with Update available if the map is stale), or Route saved, no map / Map only, route not saved for a partial download. Tapping a partial route offers to finish it - for example the Route Saved, Map Missing prompt offers Download Map, and a failed download shows Partially Downloaded or Download Failed with a Retry option.
The Offline Maps bar at the top of the Routes tab shows how much storage your downloads are using ({used} / {total} MB); tap it to manage offline storage. Use Clean Up All to clear everything and free up space - you can re-download anytime. A route's offline data and map are also removed automatically when you delete the route.
