Rides

Viewing, editing, and managing your ride history.

Ride History

The Rides page shows all your recorded rides, whether from the mobile app or synced from Strava.

All Time Stats

At the top of the page, you'll see your All Time Stats summary: total points, distance, number of rides, commutes, CO2 saved, GeoZones completed, and elevation gained.

Below the stats is an interactive graph showing your ride activity over time. Toggle between different metrics (Points, Rides, Commutes, CO2 Saved, GeoZones, Distance, Elevation) to visualize your progress.

Filtering and Sorting

Use the dropdown menus to filter your rides:

  • Ride Type - Show all rides, only commutes, or only sport rides
  • Time Period - Filter by all time, this year, this month, or custom date range

The ride list is ordered chronologically by default. Click any column header (Name, Date, Distance, Time, Elevation, Points) to sort by that column.

Viewing a Ride

Click any ride to see its details:

  • Stats - Distance, moving time, average speed, elevation gain, max speed, elapsed time
  • Route Map - Interactive map showing your ride path
  • Elevation Profile - Visual graph of elevation changes along your route
  • GeoZones Completed - List of GeoZones you passed through
  • Points Earned - Breakdown of distance, commute, and GeoZone points
  • Rambles - Every Ramble this ride moved. Location Rambles show Complete or how many of the locations you hit, and metric Rambles show what the ride added and where you stand. Each row links to the Ramble page

Every ride you record counts toward the live Rambles in your groups, and some Rambles ask you to confirm before they count your rides.

Automatic Commute Detection

If your group admin has given a GeoZone in one of your Rambles the Commute / Work purpose (for example, your office or workplace) and your ride passes through it, Riding Places automatically classifies the ride as a Commute. Because an automatic classification can't know which vehicle you would have driven, the default replaced transport is a car of unknown size, and your CO2 savings are calculated for you. You don't need to remember to tag the ride.

If you actually replaced something else, such as a bus, a train, a larger vehicle, or a motorbike, open the ride and edit the Replaced Transport mode (the full list is below). Once you've set it manually, future automatic detection won't override your choice.

Editing a Ride

Click the three-dot menu on a ride detail page, then select Edit Ride. You can change:

  • Ride Name - Give your ride a custom name
  • Ride Type - Switch between Sport and Commute
  • Replaced Transport - For commutes, specify what mode you replaced to calculate CO2 savings (the available modes and their factors are listed below)

CO2 Savings

When you mark a ride as a Commute and select the transport you replaced, Riding Places calculates your CO2 savings. The calculation uses published, standardized emission factors for your market, following the GHG Protocol for employee commuting. The exact factors and their sources are listed on the CO2 methodology page.

Emission factors used (kg CO2 per km):

  • ๐Ÿš˜ Car or truck (not known): 0.219 kg CO2/km
  • ๐Ÿš— Car: 0.185 kg CO2/km
  • ๐Ÿš™ SUV or truck: 0.245 kg CO2/km
  • ๐ŸšŒ Bus: 0.041 kg CO2/km
  • ๐Ÿš† Subway / transit rail: 0.058 kg CO2/km
  • ๐Ÿ๏ธ Motorcycle: 0.11 kg CO2/km

Source: EPA GHG Emission Factors Hub, January 2025, Table 10. Methodology reference: us-v1.

Your CO2 avoided is simply: distance (km) ร— emission factor. For example, a 10 km commute replacing a car saves 1.85 kg of CO2.

For the full sourcing, per-row citations, and assumptions behind each factor, see our CO2 methodology page.

Deleting a Ride

Click the three-dot menu and select Delete Ride. This permanently removes the ride and cannot be undone.
