Rambles are how your group rides together - visit favorite places, chase a goal, climb the leaderboard, or raise money with the rides everyone is already doing. A Ramble bundles everything in one place: the story, the dates, the reward, and the rule for winning. If it involves visiting places, those locations are GeoZones - circles on the map that live inside the Ramble.
Riders in your group see every live Ramble in their hub; some Rambles ask them to confirm before rides count. Your job is just to pick a style, set it live, and let people ride.
Everything in this guide lives under Rambles in the sidebar.
The cards at the top of the Rambles page are grouped into two families - Ride to places and Every ride counts. Switch between them with the toggle, then pick the card that fits what you want to happen:
Go to Rambles in the sidebar and pick a style from the cards at the top of the page (use the family toggle to switch between the location styles and the every-ride styles). The builder opens with that kind already selected and a short note about what to set up next. You can switch with Choose a different style before you first save, but the kind can't be changed after creation.
The form sits on the left, and the preview on the right is the actual page riders will see - it updates live as you type, so what you see is exactly what they get.
The location kinds need at least one GeoZone. Click + Create a new GeoZone, give it a name, choose its purpose, and place it on the map: search for an address or click the map to drop the pin, drag the pin to fine-tune, and drag the circle edge to set the size. GeoZones have a minimum radius of 50 meters - a zone marks a destination, not a single address - and anything smaller is rounded up when you save. Click Add to this Ramble - the zone is created when you save the Ramble, and it takes its dates and description from the Ramble itself.
To adjust a zone later, click Edit next to it. The edit panel covers Name, Purpose, and Location, and Save GeoZone applies those straight away. Dates, description, and reward belong to the Ramble, so you edit them in the sections above.
Got locations from before the Rambles update, or ones not currently living inside another "on a ride" Ramble? Use Move an existing location into this Ramble instead of recreating them - just note that moving one retires the standalone Ramble it came from when you save. Locations inside another "on a ride" Ramble stay put; they belong to that Ramble. For the "over time" and "as a group" kinds you simply tick the locations that should count - the same place can count in more than one of those.
What “Commute / Work” does
When a rider completes a Commute GeoZone, their ride is automatically classified as a Commute with a default replaced transport of a car of unknown size. Riding Places calculates the rider's CO2 savings on their behalf, so they don't have to remember to tag the ride.
Riders can still override the replaced mode (Bus, Train, etc.) on the ride detail page. Sport / Recreation GeoZones leave the ride unclassified and don't count toward CO2 reporting.
What the Scoring section asks for depends on the kind:
The "on a ride" location kinds keep it simple - the visit itself is the rule. For Visit multiple locations on a ride you also choose whether riders need every location or just a few of them on one ride.
Add a reward description and an optional reward image. The reward is shown to riders on the Ramble page, and you hand out the prize. Pedal for Good skips this section - its payout is defined in Scoring.
For the four visit kinds (one or multiple locations on a ride, one location over time, and locations as a group), choose how a rider claims the reward after they finish. See Reward redemption below for what each option looks like from the rider's side.
The Rambles page lists everything in one table - Name, State, Progress, Dates, and Actions - with live and draft Rambles up top. Older ones sit behind the Show archived & expired toggle.
The Actions menu on each row is your control panel:
Any live Ramble can be ended early with End now - it moves to the ended list with its data intact. Ended and repeating Rambles can be reopened later from the editor if you want another season of the same Ramble.
Most prizes settle themselves. Riding Places watches the riding and sends award emails automatically:
On repeating Rambles this happens again each period, and the emails are prefixed with the period so nobody's confused about which win it was (like "June 2026: ..."). Pedal for Good is yours to settle by hand: the pot is yours to donate.
The award email includes your reward description, reward image, and how to claim. Depending on the delivery method:
Riders can also find their claims in the Your rewards section of their own Rambles page (wins from before that section launched live only in their email). If a rider loses one, you can confirm their completion under Data and settle the prize directly.
To manage prize fulfillment, go to Rambles in the sidebar, click the Actions button on the Ramble, and select Redemptions. See the full Reward Redemptions guide for details on tracking requests, marking shipments, and exporting data.
To see how a Ramble is going, click Actions on the Ramble and select Data. What you get depends on the kind: a completions list for the visit kinds, ranked standings for Leaderboards, and progress bars for group targets and Pedal for Good. Repeating Rambles have a period selector so you can browse past periods.
Use this data to:
Every live Ramble has a public page you can share anywhere - Actions > Share URL copies the link. Visitors see what the Ramble is about and are invited to join your group to take part.
Actions > Marketing materials opens the share sheet: a printable Ramble Poster PDF plus prefilled launch and reminder emails and a short blurb you can paste anywhere. The poster picks up your wordmark and brand color from your Group Profile. For the wider launch playbook, see the launch guide.
